Presented here are some of the best recordings by the fascinating Clifford Brown-Max Roach Quintet. Harold Land is the tenor saxophonist on CD1, while Sonny Rollins replaces him on the whole CD2. The group is completed by Richie Powell (Bud Powell’s younger brother) on piano, and George Morrow on bass.

Brown has been praised as the “greatest trumpeter that ever lived” by musicians such as Herb Alpert and Quincy Jones.
