Finger Poppin’ (Blue Note BST-84008) is hailed as one of the true classics from Horace Silver’s discography. It was the first album Silver recorded with the most celebrated version of his quintet. Featuring Junior Cook on tenor sax, Blue Mitchell on trumpet, Gene Taylor on bass, and Louis Hayes on drums, it perfectly blends the pianist’s advanced, groundbreaking hard bop style with the winning, gregarious personality conveyed in his eight original tunes. Six tunes recorded a few months later that complete the studio recordings by the exact same quintet have been added as a bonus.
