Plays for Lovers
John ColtraneTHE JEAN-PIERRE LELOIR COLLECTION
180 pure virgin vinyl LPs in Gatefold packaging
John Coltrane was one of the most revolutionary tenor saxophonists in jazz history. However, in addition to his experimental playing, Coltrane was also a superb ballad stylist, capable of creating a very personal and intimate sound.
This LP compiles some of Trane’s best recordings of ballads and standard love songs, covering the period from 1956 to 1962 (but expressly excluding any track from his celebrated Impulse album Ballads). Although they present a variety of backing musicians, all of them are in a quartet format, featuring Coltrane as the only horn.
