180-gram PURE VIRGIN VINYL LPs IN GATEFOLD PACKAGING
Recorded in 1960, The Hottest New Group in Jazz was the fourth LP by the vocal trio of Dave Lambert (1917-1966), Jon Hendricks (1921-2017) and Annie Ross (born in 1930, and age 87 at this writing). During a 1968 interview with Les Tomkins, Hendricks spoke about the beginnings of the group and their first album: “I guess people will always associate me with Lambert, Hendricks and Ross. It sure was a memorable group. You know, the way we were organised was really quite accidental. We had no intention of having a regular vocal group; we were just doing that one album”. The group was formed in 1957 and was voted Best Vocal Group in the Down Beat Readers Poll from 1959 to 1963. Annie Ross left the group in 1962, replaced by vocalist Yolande Bavan. Any hopes of a reunion of the original trio ended with Lambert’s death in a car accident in 1966
